To Speak
Words- so easy to use
so light, so dark-easy to twist
I use them daily letting them hang in empty air
tasting their meanings the way a wine tastor does
rolling their shape around my tongue
bitter words-sweet words
Hitting others- my winged defenses
hurtling their sounds across my brain.
And yet I trap some in my heart
Some bitter well of all the things I've left unsaid
They jostle there as regrets- those things I've left unsaid
Those bitter thoughts, the one's I can not voice
Words- so easy to use, so easy to leave unsaid.
