God Took His Strength but Left Me His Smile`
He ran around the house
playing that never ending game of tag until
he grew too tired.
Telling that same silly story,
beaming his contagious smile and laughing until
he began to cough.
The defeat quickly took over
his mind, his body, his time.
“Four months,” said the doctors,
but it was two weeks later that
he lay in the cold hospital bed.
Monitors beeping and clear tubes
attached to each and every heartless machine.
His dark complexion began to softly fade
into the pale walls and bare floor
that formed the dark room.
His eyelids began to hang over
the clear blue that once looked warmly down upon me--
his little angel.
And as the disease spread to his heart,
God forced him to say goodbye too soon.
