A New Home
As the sound of an alarm fills the air,
you shrug off the covers and
rub sleep out of your closed eyelids.
Ready for the rest of a lifetime.
You have been waiting fourteen lengthy years
for what this new day holds.
You open the wide heavy doors to a place unknown:
Strange hallways, crowded rooms, busy stair cases.
Wondering around you notice:
Seniors applying to colleges;
Juniors talking about prom;
Sophomores achieving their licenses;
And fellow freshmen getting lost.
Being caught up in all the madness,
could be an era of no end,
you have a sudden deep desire to get out.
But when time’s up
So much more
Could have been done,
Or done without.
