A Lesson in Scars
They taught me that some are born without ears, and others missing eyes
That you can paint the bars on the wall and have the deaf not understand
They taught me that sometimes you have to be your own parent
That youth is a figure of speech and childhood exists most in a lonely adult
That there is a difference between growing up and growing old
They taught me that sex does not always reflect love because love is effortless
That I should straighten up
That no ones head is really that heavy
I learned to let your actions define you
Move with a motive and speak without sorries
To be grateful for aching feet and a cloudy conscience
To feed off of fear for personal gain
That Sometimes fear overrides respect
To let the weak be weak and yourself grow stronger
That every-one's got scars and with them stories
Some better than others
You can look across a room
And recognize a person's scars
And recollect a persons memories
