Killing Time
It’s about one in the morning on a
cool Tuesday night--
and I’m not wearing any pants.
The warmth from my laptop protects
my exposed extremities from the cold air’s bite.
I’ve been up browsing Craigslist,
admiring all the great deals
on things I can’t afford.
Only $725 for an American-made Fender Strat.
I sip my black coffee and ponder how I can
work a deal like that out,
Seeing as I only have $12.34
in my bank account.
The ad says “no trades, don’t even ask.”
Naturally, my first instinct is to call him up and ask.
It being one in morning,
negotiations didn’t go quite so well.
In fact, the pissed off little man told me he was
gonna cut off my face, and wear it as a mask.
I hang up the phone and decide
I’ve had enough fun for one night;
that it’s time to go to bed and relax.
Ooh look, that’s a nice deal for a barely-used sax.
