Battle Wounds
I am a highly decorated veteran, standing tall and proud,
With colors all over that prove my rank above others.
The desire to have another badge of honor pushes me,
to do just about anything.
Once my scars have formed I am stripped of my injury,
Yet I still want to cover what is there.
Others envy me when I walk around with my band of pride,
but as we grow older some forget their importance.
These fallen soldiers can be found anywhere—
out to eat, in the grocery store and even at home.
Each holding a memory and a little piece of all of us,
because we have all had that feeling wearing
a band-aid.
