Little girl about three years old
She dances across the kitchen floor
Looking up at her mother, she asks
"Can I dance like a ballerina?"

Soon enough the first lesson came
The girl had never once experienced a greater thrill
So much better than any silly childhood toy

Class after class flies by
She grows and grows
Then she realizes she's chosen a one way street
And so the once little girl is now an apprentice

Leaving behind a normal childhood
She puts in its place a dancer's life
Full of strengthening and training

No more childhood games
No more sports
Parties
Not even sleepovers

Just the road to her newly destined future
Along the way meeting ups and downs
Creating a joyous and exciting yet tear-streaked trail behind

But the young girl is in love
Mesmerized by an art full of sacrifice
That made her dream come alive
The once little girl now a ballerina

I decided to write this piece to explain how difficult it is to have a normal childhood when your committed to something that includes such sacrifice and decision. I myself being a dancer, made this poem a personal one about myself and my choices and sacrifices.
