Motionless under the starless night,
We lay praying, begging there would be no light,
We could not see another man’s eyes
As he realized he’d been told just lies,
Lies that war is heroic, war is good,
That they’d get him to his family as soon as they could,
That he’d shoot a few-a few who were bad…
Not that he’d slay kids younger than his lad

We pray for this favor: that the sun will not rise
So we are spared seeing all hope fade from their eyes,
Maybe then we can again go to fight,
Fight though our souls scream: ”It’s not right!”

All under that starless night.

The upcoming Remembrance day got me thinking about all that soldiers are forced to go through and how they must feel. Of how when they return from their living hell they keep their silence for they can not bear think of what they had to endure and although we call them heroes they feel like dirt for doing what they had no choice in. I wanted to give them a voice.
