Anti-ode to Snakes
Oh what scary reptiles.
They slither through the tall grass
to sneak up on you.
They work all night long
trying to get rid of all the rodents to
serve to their scaly friends.
They live happily under the dark
cold houses burrowed under the ground.
They eat everything from mice to rats, and
rabbits to raccoons.
When you walk through dark places
you try to look at the ground to see
if you will ever spot a snake on your trail.
You try to send them away with poison
but that will never work, they will just find
another way to get past the poison.
When the cold weather comes
they go away and burrow far underneath
the ground to keep warm, but they only come
up for food. And you listen carefully
to see if you can hear the sound of the
snakes slithering through the grass and leaves.
