Skipping Stones
Golden eyes watching, flitting

 back and forth

 between breaths and beats

 waiting for a change

a halt, or skip like a

hiccup or a stone across water,

 pausing mid-air before falling

downward and breaking space to connect

 instead of slowly sinking under.

Waiting for a sigh, some sign of life

 beneath, to dream again,

to change and feel like love again, waiting

to skip a stone and connect

 instead of slowly sinking under.
