The Way Things Change
The notes passed in class
 An old, hay-covered blanket
A faded picture of two little girls
And an old silver trinket in the shape of half a heart; on it, the words “BE FRIE FORE”
The other half of the words, the other half of the heart, no longer belonging to her
But to one she once knew

 How did it all start?
 Does she even remember?
 No
 It was seven years ago
 Too far back to recall
How they met remains a mystery

“You’re not my best friend, you’re my sister”
 Sisters
 As in, inseparable
 Nothing could tear them apart
 An invincible bond

 Until…

 She sees a change
 A new player enters
 A game-changer
Neither of them realize the power
“Nothing needs to change, it’ll all stay how it’s always been”

 Little do they know…

 Jealousy
 Spite
 Resentment
 Hatred
 The flame fed
 The feud begins
 A battlefield has been set

 Now it’s all over
 The late night talks
 Sleepovers
 Inside jokes
 From sisterhood to strangers
Seven years blown away in the wind

 Maybe someday they’ll meet again
 But nothing remains the same
What's been lost can’t be recovered
 They’ll need to start new

 Maybe they can…
 Or maybe not…
