If Only They Could See...
Thirteen years now
I’ve been living with my brother
 We’ve had our ups

 and our downs.
 Summer being the hardest
 with no adults around.
Just me. A fourteen year old girl.

 It seems like common sense
 that younger siblings
have to listen to older ones,
 but somehow, that doesn’t
 resister in his mind.

 With no sense of authority,
 no strong foundation,
 no integrity,

I don’t see how he is going to make it any farther

 Witnessing him going through torchure
 for something he can’t control,
 makes me think twice
 about other mentally handicapped kids.

How I think my life sucks,
because I have to be his sister.
Yet he goes through more pain
 in a day,
then most do in a lifetime.

 If only they could see,
 not only the cause-
 but also the effect.
