Favorite Quote:
"Everyone says love hurts, but that's not true. Loneliness hurts. Rejection hurts. Losing someone hurts. Envy hurts. Everyone gets these things confused with love. But in reality, love is the only thing in this world that covers up all the pain and makes someone feel wonderful again." - unknown

Circus tent filled with people,
Silently watching the ring.
Their expressions are glassy;
They have seen this show before.
Dim the lights overhead;
Every face tilts towards the sky:
There's me, with my broken smile,
Walking on a tightrope,
Braided with whispered secrets,
Bound at the ends with laughs,
Stretched across empty blackness.
There's you, on the trapeze swing,
Doing flips over my head.
We are the stars of the show.
But it's all been done before,
And I was going to quit -
Leave this worn out circus tent,
And the audience, behind.
But you told me, "Wait, don't leave",
Helped me climb up the ladder
That gets higher every time.
You turned and twirled the lights,
And my eyes seemed to sparkle.
So now I'm up here walking -
Hopefully you're watching,
Because there's no net below,
And it's such a long way down;
I would surely break something.
Promise you won't let me fall?

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this by the fact that I am taking a chance on love once again after being hurt so many times before. This poem is an abstract description of how that feels, with the "audience" being the people in my life and the tightrope representing the frightening risk of falling in love and hoping it will last this time.
