Little girl, cry not so
Your little problems come and go
Look at the sun, count the stars
Play with your friend’s little cars
Perhaps they laughed at you today
Maybe she took your toy away
Tomorrow you will smile
And never think thoughts so vile
Oh little girl, shed your years
I do not want to drop my tears
Please, I beg, please return
To the time when I did not burn
From acid daggers that do wound
My heart, and joy now rarer croons
To me, as it did some time before,
So send me back to the enchanted shore
Of faded memories so fond
Little girl, where have you gone?
