"...in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy." - The Desiderata

I am your daughter
You tell me

Be a fighter
Don’t be wild
Have opinions
Don’t argue too much
Speak only when spoken to
Be polite
Sit still
Go outside and play
You’re a young woman now
But you don’t understand the world

So let me
Let me
Oh please please please
Let me experience this world
This world that I am growing into
This world that I love
This world you are releasing me into soon
Reluctantly

When I was younger I would climb the trees outside the kitchen window
I felt like I owned the world
Now I have too much s*** to do
But I still look up at that tree that was my first friend

You tell me to aim high
And then you laugh at me when I tell you my dreams
So what if I want to be the President
The Dalai Lama
A veterinarian
A professional tree climber
A model
And then join the circus
Oh the circus
When I grow up I want to live in a tree house and walk on stilts all year round
You tell me to have a passion
This is my passion
Please listen to me
If you just let me I could own the world
Why not?

I am a living affirmation
Just let me go and see how high I could fly
My eyes have seen more than you think
I have lived more than you could even imagine
Now
Today
I am not your Sophia
I am my Sophie
My very own

I have a passion for life
For taking risks
Laughing until I fall down
I like hugs
I like staying up late
I like coffee that’s mostly milk with a lot of sugar

I make mistakes
But that is because I feel so much
I want to be so much
I just want to be me
So I write my want for love on my arms
Just see me
Love me
Help me grow
