Surprise
Though I had heard,
 I couldn’t believe,
 So I clung to the one last thread of my sanity.
 I told him what happened;
 I pretended I was fine.
 But the anger in his voice
 Reflected the sorrow in mine.
 So the score goes up
 To what is now number four;
 I flinch at the creak of a stair
 And every knock of the door.
