Invincible
Translucent shimmers of broken glass imitate the northern lights.
I notice the abandoned toys of nearby school children.
I see a defiled tree of black spite, a swastika awkwardly etched.
 I smell decomposed, rotting leaves,
And the stale fear of those before me.
Sharp, obtuse shards of peppermint shock my lungs: an unsuspected twist.
A drapery of peace settles, heavy and secure. Safe.
An intoxication of sorts seeps into my blood
Suddenly I feel light, as if I could fly to the North Star. Invincible.
This reminds me of what it’s like to be on top of a mountain. Empowering.
