Ashamed
I’m ashamed
 Ashamed to say I’m Mormon
 Because they are famed
 For all the billion
Slanderous comments about those who are different
Whether it’s other religions or gays
 Because they have different ways

 How can a culture respecting
 Mormon treat gays
As they have been treated by calling
 Them wrong and impure

The Mormons were treated wrongly in the past
But it was much the same as they are treating gays now
 And I am aghast
 Don’t see how
 They can do that
 Without feeling remorse
 For treating others badly

 They say
 Being gay
 Is wrong
 But how long
 Were the Mormon ways
 Considered wrong?
 How is that fair
 That we can treat gays
As we were so abhorrently treated?

 Why have we become
As bad as our past oppressors
 And as numb?

I thought we were supposed to be better than them
But now we have stooped to their level
By how lots of Mormons condemn
Them for things that I haven’t even seen in the bible

I’m proud of the rainbow flag
 In front of my house
Including how people yell out things like `f**’
 Because I don’t care

What I’m not proud of is being Mormon
Because we’ve gotten a bad reputation
 From the horrendous acts
That’s been done to those that are different

 I got a first-hand witness
 To it
 I saw the meanness

I went to Utah Gay Pride
 And on the way out
 I saw the haters
 With theirs signs
 Those sick traitors
Of our history of being persecuted
 Because of what we believed

I don’t understand how they could
 Or would
 Treat others with such disrespect
When all we wanted was to be accepted
 How they can’t accept others
 Those empty-faces
They don’t see the truth that they like to preach
That we’re all brothers and sisters
And you shouldn’t treat family that way
 So why do they?
Why can’t they accept them for who they are?

 People beg for world peace
But how are we to achieve that
 Without city peace

 Accept others as they are
 Despite their choices
 Or beliefs
 Or whom they love

Stop making us who have realized that
 Be ashamed
 As I am

 I’m ashamed
 Ashamed to say I’m Mormon
 Because they are famed
 For all the billion
Slanderous comments about those who are different
Whether it’s other religions or gays
 Because they have different ways

 How can a culture respecting
 Mormon treat gays
As they have been treated by calling
 Them wrong and impure

 Stop it
 Please.
