I never knew what it felt like
To be embraced within her arms.
Never knew the gentle kiss
Nor the soft touch of her hand.

People who surround me
Talk about her sharp wit.
Talk about her stories,
Ones she never told me.

They talk about her joyful laugh
How gentle, yet so confidant.
How easily she could scare a man,
But could comfort a frightened child.

I sit and only listen,
Saddened by a simple fact-
That I will never know the woman,
That so many around me adore.

I will never know the wonderful lady,
The woman who they call my grandmother.

The author's comments:
I never knew my grandmother, so this poem is very personal. I am trying to express feelings from a child's view, and then progress to an older child/adult. Let me know if I succeeded and if it flows well.

I love this. sweet, simple, yet powerful, touching. I think you could have added some more lines to emphasize (but not exaggerate) that the speaker has grown up, if that's what you're aiming for. but still a great job! keep writing. :)

The emotion in this is very powerful. It had a great beginning and you drew the reader in perfectly. Nice job :)
