When we all went to
The 7/11 parking lot,
And opened our envelopes together.
My letter read “Captain”
While yours only said “Lieutenant.”
You broke out in tears;
But I didn’t know what to say to you.
You wouldn’t look at me for a week,
Not that you paid any attention to me before.
The funny thing is:
This is all on you.
Because nothing I do,
No matter what I say,
You will never stop hating me.
But seriously, Monica,
Does it really irk you so much
When I stand in the middle of the front line,
And when Mrs. O actually asks my opinion
Because she cares about what I think.
Does it tick you off when I lead stretches?
Because to be frank, I don’t even like stretching,
And half of them don’t listen to me anyway.
Does it tick you off when Katie and Jamie
Back me up and defend me?
Does it all bug you so much
That you feel the need to ignore me
When I give instructions to the guard?
Have you noticed
How the younger guard girls copy you
And so I end up talking to a total of
Nine people,
Including myself
While the rest of you mess around?
Do your petty acts of rebellion
