I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can give you the formula for failure--which is: Try to please everybody.
Herbert Bayard Swope

I am an artist
My canvas a sheet of paper
The blankness an invitation for my mind to open
Open its doors wide to reveal an outpour of ideas
My brush works to complete diverse strides
It swirls and spirals to create art
Furiously filling up the page as the work draws near to completion
The blankness slowly diminishes
White masked by color
As my last strokes are finished
I gaze at my masterpiece
And find
That I wrote a poem
I am an artist

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem after many failed attempts at learning how to draw. I realized that I am an artist, but of words. I wrote this poem to get people thinking about how art exists in forms other than paintings or sketches. I won't give up on drawing, but I will pursue writing more.

Interesting Fact: I wrote this poem on sketch paper, in a sketch book. It's my twist on painting.
