Never Did She Know

Young she was
When she saw
Her first plane.
Never would
She have imagined
A thing like that would
Change her life.

How ugly it is,
She thought at first,
Nothing special at all.
Oh how very wrong she was.
Never did she know
That in a couple years time,
The air would be her dream,
Her ambition.

Never would she have guessed
That she would take on a voyage
That no one dared risk.
Even the bravest of men
Didn’t take on the challenge.
But she, a woman, did.

Never did she know
That one day she and her
Partner would fly through
The Atlantic, reaching the
Vast Pacific. With a plane of
Her own, the journey she
Will make and her fate she would meet.

Never did she know
That some day she would
Reach a goal no one before
Her ever did, and no one
In her time dared risk.
Never would she have guessed
That she would reach her end doing
Something she loved. Never would she
Know how much she had achieved.

It's an Ode To Amelia Earhart, and I do hope I managed to capture at least the essence of the many things she achieved.

Of course, thank you very much for asking! I'm glad it could be useful! Sorry to come up as another username, I forgot my password to the account I had posted the work under.

@Chazz May I use your poem in a lesson I would like to teach to 2nd graders? We have been studying Amelia and I wanted to share a poem that someone wrote about her. tledesma@aisd.net
