Elsa Was a Lame Duck
Elsa was a lame duck
When the boys came to dance
She sat down on the linoleum floor
And got dust on her pants.
Her walk home was always damp
Residue on the asphalt
Paper towels in the entry hall dustbin
From wiping off her shoes.
Pretentious greased mahogany tables
Atop sat hamburger helper
Her mother sprayed abrasive aerosols
Hair in ponytail, and yelled at her.
If the names in her textbook lack luster,
Frantically she’d demand
Another issue to peer through
And spark her salivary glands
Elsa is drab
She is not fab.
Poor Elsa.
