Freedom to Fly
I want freedom. True, and pure
No ties, no restraints, no ropes holding me down.
 Freedom to fly
 Unburdened, carrying nothing
My wings spread, kissed by the wind,
 The world flowing below.

I am not drawn to the mountains
No need for the lakes or streams
 Soaring, untouched by longing
 No desire, no worry.
My cares stream from my fingers
 Dripping away, meaningless.

 The freedom to feel
 To love
 To take to the air
 Without regret or disappointment.

No rough hands pulling me down
Forcing me to land on protesting feet.
I can take off like a champagne cork
 Gazing only ahead
Not at the people below, gradually growing smaller.

 I want freedom
 Freedom to fly
 But freedom to fly
 Is also freedom to fall
And if I cut all my anchors
In order to truly fly unburdened
No one will be there to catch me.
