My Words

Here's the deal
I've got all these words bunched up in my head
Some like old animal crackers or jelly beans
From three years ago
Some like hard marshmallows
Or used gum in the wrapper partly stuck to a car seat
Some are as fresh as the new dress you bought
And some are beautiful as a freshly blown rose
Some are delicate as snowflakes
Or the still surface of a lake
Before the pebble drops in
Others are strong as oak trees
Strong as my dad
As the waves of the ocean as they strip away the sand from the shore...crashing
Some are small like the eye of a needle
And hard to see through
Some are large like a mountain
And hard to climb up
Some bend like reeds by the creek
Some crack in the dry summer heat

And all those words, I just want to share them
I want to sing
Shout
Declare
Exclaim
Serenade
Announce
Proclaim
Vociferate
Promulgate
These words that I have all tucked away
In the cracks and crannies
The locked trunks and numerous drawers
Under the rugs and behind old wallpaper

I want to say a word to you
To make you
Cry
Laugh
Smile
Scowl
Frown
Weep
Whisper
Stare
Wonder
Ponder
Consider
Dream
Muddle
Puzzle

I want to say a word
Or a few words
And the world is clothed in color
The moon shines purple
The sky is painted orange
The grass turns blue
The trees become red

Then those words
Those words have life

The author's comments:
I really, really love to write. Can you tell? I hope to be an author someday. And perhaps an illustrator, but I will always form words.
They say that a picture can speak a thousand words. When it's done properly, a thousand words can paint a picture for me.

Your imagery is amazing! The tone doesn't seem quite consistent through out (going from "here's the deal" to a more romantic (?) tone) but all in all, this is a great poem!
