Ode to Soap

The bathroom
infused, with
eucalyptus,
lifting citrus,
pure
like
soap,
a block of
fudge,
white chocolate,
handsome
and honest,
shaped, in
cotton and
swirls of
night blooming jasmine
sun-ripened raspberry
omitting from
its center
slowly unraveled,
like,
velvet,
a tiny moon
nudged between
flasks of oil,
epsom salts,
purple sea sponges,
collections,
like
soap,
shedding
flakes
of dandruff
and coconut,
brown sugar
fading,
with
plentiful shapes
gooey
and melting
devoured, by
the rip of
our skin,
sunken, like
the dents
in its back
and crooked
features of
soap,
wrinkled
with
streaks,
of vanilla,
the tingling of a fig,
all scents of
the bathroom,
roughly
caressed
by the scalding
waters
cool waters,
slippery
coarse,
like a bar,
block of metal,
protected
with a shell
of coconut meat,
beautiful,
like
soap.

The author's comments:
It was a project for English since we're currently in a huge poetry session to create a poetic "ode" to an inanimate object. Soap was just one of my few ideas.

An ode to soap...I see a long career in advertising, perhaps a corner office in brand management at Proctor & Gamble. Part poetry, part commentary, part art. Great job Sawyer!  I'm eager to read more.  Fred.

I meant "I KNEW him when..."  :-)

Sawyer, beautiful poem!  The imagery is great and it captures the sensory aspects of soap, fragrance and cleanliness!  Keep it up Sawyer.  I'll be proud to say "I know him when...."

You are so creative and I look at the bathroom in a whole new light now. Keep writing because you are so talented!

Yes, I did mean "emitting," but by the time I realized it, I couldn't edit it because the poem was already published. By the way, thank you for all your comments on my writing! I really appreciate it!

You've made me want to eat the soap instead of bath with it.  I can smell it as you say it, the citrus, the chocolate, the raspberry.  Well done.

It makes me want to take a bath AND have a great meal.....so many food references!

Keep it up Sawyer....

p.s. I think you meant emitting not omitting.....    :)

The imagery is extraordinary. Colorful, vibrant, tactile.

You have a gift for developing detailed images in the reader's head.  My favorite part: "a block of
fudge,
white chocolate,
handsome
and honest,"

Keep up the good work!
