Words to Remember
Things have changed
 since you left,
 but to me
 you’re not gone yet.
 There are things
 that remind me of you
things that I just can’t keep out of my head.
 Sometimes I feel like
 I am alone,
 but I know
 that when I cry
you are kneeling next to me
 with your hand
 rubbing my back
 in continuous circles.
And so calmly in your voice,
I hear it over and over,
you say the same five words,
 “It’s okay to cry Eli”
 And I look up,
 but no one’s there
and I say the four words
 that I couldn’t seem
to get out of my mouth
 when I had the time,
 “I love you mom.”
