Dog Chain

Since he was a puppy
He had this chain
It was sliver
And made a lot of noise
He wore it with pride
And never took it off
With that goofy smile
And wagging tail
He made it his
And everyone knew it
That chain of his
Had special powers
It kept him with us
For an extra year
And the last night he wore it
I took it off him
There was silence
In the room
The only thing you could hear
Was his chain clinking in my hands.
