Crunch, crack, crinkle underneath rubber soles
clicks engulf the surrounding air as acorns hit the pavement
parts separate from trees bit by bit, yearning to be whole again
nearly dark you catch simple images that glide past your vision

Squirrels scurry, stampeding over fallen leaves
the bitter wind pulls frigid bodies together in warmth
inner parts chill, a breath of cool air flowing through the sky
nearing dusk the color start to change, reflecting tree lines

Waiting wishes wander in the nearby twilight hours
briskly set a pace, though not to miss the beauty around
all along wondering, what if you couldn’t see this work of art
how the sky fits with the trees, entwined like a puzzle

Diminishing delights, darkness closes around you
pictures faded from warm hues to cool blues and blacks
there sounds are still there though throughout the night
fall, as it holds you here, tight
