The birch tree shakes
the leaves scatter in swirls
from the unforgiving wind
a great beast beside the tree
winks and gawks
and scrapes and gnaws at me
There in the place of one who should be
there is one who rips and tears and claws like the beast
only worse, because that one
is me, for I am no longer myself you see...
and I see nothing
to see...
to see...
to see only the biting winter wind in the
