Muffled Violins
Listen- do you hear
 The muffled violins, my dear?
 Darling- can you bear
A world that has but one care?
That when the sun has arrived
 Back into the lonely sky
The people in the ancient bars
 With creaky floors
 And washed up movie stars
 Will fetch their loved ones
From the clubs, down the street
 With flashing lights
And music that lasts into the night
Oh darling will you lift me up
 From the dusty darkened lanes
 Of misery and past enjoyment
You are what I want from life
So please help me end this strife
The constant motions of the joy
That lasts a moment- then it’s gone
Will be the death of me, I fear
Unless you swear to help, my dear
The sun will set each heated night
With only you as my shining knight
A kind distraction, a glimpse of hope
You will save me from this slope
Forever mine, and I forever yours
Till I fade from life’s crash course
