The Happiness Choice
My mom,
 she tells me
 that happiness is a choice.

 I have to wonder,
 is it really?

 For some,
 yeah,
 it is.

 But for me,
 and others like me,
 it simply can’t be.

 It hurts too much.

 It’s like
 the depression
 is consuming the happiness
 and taking away
 that choice.

 Sure,
 you can fight it.

 Sure,
 you can try.

 And that, too,
 is a choice,
 but the initial happiness
 inside,
 is that a choice.

 To be happy
 is a choice.

 Happiness itself
 is a condition.
