Look at the beautiful baby
So peacefully asleep.
But keep in mind
The world is not so beautiful,
And the world is by no means as innocent.
No harm meant, but unintentionally
Your life will be spent
Trying to make it,
A decent citizen simply
Trying to earn a cent
And maybe succeed just enough to try again tomorrow.

Sooner or later you’ll have to realize
That growing up means giving in,
And I can only hope that your sparkling baby blue
Baby eyes
Won’t dim a little every time
A loved one dies,
Your mother lies, or
When your heart cries out for someone it can’t have.
I would advise you
To wipe away those baby tears,
Calm your fears
And let serenity rise to engulf you in warmth and happiness,
But it’s not going to make a difference.

Go to sleep, my child.
Let your wildest dreams
Take you to where nothing seems safe.
Toss and turn all night, but don’t think it’ll
All be all right in the morning;
The monsters and ghouls will follow you.
This isn’t a warning,
It’s just the truth.
