When you long with all your heart for someone to love you, a madness grows there that shakes all sense from the trees and the water and the earth. And nothing lives for you, except the long deep bitter want. And this is what everyone feels from birth to death.

Tonight I watched my life
go up in flames
Crackling and crinkling
under the heat.
The flames danced in my eyes
and I smiled.
The fire sizzled when
a tear drop fell from my chin.
The pile of flames grew
and lit up my hands
on this moonless night.
Shriveling down
my life became nothing more
than a pile of ashes.
Darkness again subsided
and the warmth disappeared.
A brisk wind picked up
and blew me into the sky.
As quietly as I entered,
I left.
Like the flames and the smoke
and the ashes
I am gone without a trace.
