Marijuana
I have seen children
young- so very young,
pick up a tiny twisted bag lay the
green onto a white wrapper and roll
another blundt because the glossy
warning on a magazine can't
help parents tell their babies to stop.
Because we want to give them the world
and if they need to be high to
see it, then we will
look away at dilated eyes
and ignore the smoke from the walls.
They need it to forget
and maybe we do to, because
we fail sometimes and can't always be
the parents we thought we could.
And we may forgive them
more than we should but we find
the need to apologize
because we are the ones that turn away.
If you don't say no, you're saying yes.
