The night
Every day you come
Always dependable
Never the same
You cover the world in a blanket of darkness
Of violet light
After the sun sinks
You appear
Like you were waiting
For your chance to shine
You stand like a silent sentinel
While everyone is asleep
You are my only company
In these early hours
The quite abounds
Interrupted only by
An occasional sound
I look out the window and see
The sun rising over the trees
This is goodbye for now
But not for long
