That day

I walked into that room of departure,
Where so many people became a blur;
His eyes glanced over with torture and sorrow,
As if he had stabbed me in the heart with an arrow;

On his death bed we knew he was afraid,
But all we could do was pray;
To take him out of his misery,
But we all knew it wouldn’t be easy;

As selfish as this may seem,
For him to live forever would be my absolute dream;
The family sat their crying at the betrayal from the doctor,
It was almost as if he were a doctor;

On that day, there was no laughing or glee,
There wasn’t even a golly gee;
You may call me selfish,
But he wasn’t even oldish;

He knew he would always be there and say,
I love you everyday;
We said goodbye as he went to sleep for eternity,
One thing I’m glad is he is in a safe place now….Sadly.

This was one of my first poem about my cousin in the hospital.
