yellow old house,
pale as the skeleton memories
drip soaked into the the fibers
of the faded American flag

as it peers onto the sidewalk.
leaf splattered and
cracking, Where I used to live.
Where I nestled as a rat in more than enough blankets,
Where I squealed, beckoning dawn with a little boy's glee,
Where Christmas was felt, and lying on the carpet
I ate and wept and bled and all of it,

All of it radiates
through the marrow of the yellow walls
soaking in the Illinois sun.
