Words at a Candle Light Vigil
I remember my brother

 Loved to play with candles.
 Fascinated, watching
 Each candle burn, melt,
 Twist into elaborate designs,
 Leaving unique beauty
 As each one’s purpose
 Flickers away with the flame.

 I remember my brother,
 Though three years older,
 Looked like my twin.
 Angrily, I ne’er appreciated
 Being confused for my brother,
 Yet he always thought
 Our similarity
 Rather funny indeed.

 Watching the kids
 Tilt candles away,
 Avoiding dripping, hot wax,
 I remembered my brother,

 and Realized
 A candle, much like Life,
 Lasts only until the flame
 Melts all the wax
 Or is blown out.

 No matter the length remaining,
 The shape formed
 From a melted candle
 Leaves a lasting memory
 For Those who Knew him

 No matter the length remaining,
 The drops spread
 From a tilted candle
 Leaves a lasting memory
 For Those who Felt him

 I remember my brother.
 Nobody calls me
 By his name
 Anymore;
 I just wish They would.
