Model Airplanes
I found the swooning
Model Airplanes
circling my dresser this morning,
They were forlorn figures, from
the back of the antique mall
(next to the steel typewriters),
but they didn't grind ink into wood.
They hovered in patience,
like those caramel candies at grandpa's place
or the dust lulling on dad's iron-clad toolbox.
Now, they lay benign
in the form of
scattered drill bits,
stringless fishing poles,
empty rocking chairs
that I will never forget.

I ascribe my inspiration for this piece to my father and grandfathers. Although often unnoticed and contrary to personal ambitions, their sacrifices have formed and protected my family. In my own development, I have found their patience and tranquility to be an unfailing catalyst for my pursuit of different passions. Even as one has already passed and the others will also one day pass away, I hope to remember their selfless and loving natures, which I can find through the observation of simple, everyday objects.
