A Multitude of Crossroads
People talk about crossroads
where you have two directions,
paths,
decisions,
life-altercations,
in front of you.
One could ruin you.
Completely burst your world into tiny shards,
smithereens
of glass
that hurt to walk on
with bare feet.
One could complete you,
perhaps in ways unexpected,
but nonetheless
give you sunshine;
joy that radiates from your heart,
a smile that never fades from your lips.
But I have more than two paths.
I have more.
There are thousands.
They overwhelm me.
So I sit on the ground,
and curl into a ball,
knees to chin,
staring at the multitude of directions
in which my life could go.
Lord,
where should I go?
I'm at a crossroads.

This piece was inspired by my confusion about what to do after high school. Where should I go? What should I do? Do I follow my passion? Do I simply live life trying to make as much money as possible? These kinds of questions flooded my mind and I couldn't help but put my thoughts to pen and paper. I hope someone else can find this piece relatable and know that they are not the only ones feeling lost about the future.
