The invisible string
The invisible string—
it tethers us all,
no matter how big,
no matter how small.
the invisible string,
it tethers us all.
it is the string of all,
the string of us,
the sting of humanity.
though we were never taught
about the invisible string of us.
we were supposed to be born knowing
the invisible string would pull us tight.
they never taught us
that the string sometimes stretches too far,
overextended, over-pulled,
overlooked.
that it gets pulled and pulled
as life goes on.
the invisible string
that ties us to our core
goes on and on.
it stretches and wears thin with time,
until it feels impossible to function,
like you’re living on a lifeline.
how are we supposed to function
when the string of us—
the string of all,
the string of our core,
the string of life—
gets tied,
gets broken,
gets thin and wiry?
the string of us,
of humans,
is tired.

My name is Jade I am deeply infatuated with poems. I find them so enthralling in the way they can be interpreted in so many different ways. I love trying to find all of the different meanings and recognize the different types of symbolism the author uses. I hope you enjoy my poem! Thank you!
