A letter to the Sun from the moon
Only comparable to the sun, you shine your light wherever you go.
But I can never equate.
As the moon, I only exist in the dark.
While you sit and chuckle, I can't help but scowl,
wishing I could live as freely as you do.
But I will never have that privilege.
Perhaps this is why you ran away,
avoiding the burden of having to comfort me and my tears.
I'm sorry for holding on, knowing I was bringing you down,
and then getting upset when you chose to lift my weight off your shoulders.
What no one knows is the way I tried,
I tried to warn you,
I tried to get you to see that all I needed was for you to be near me
I tried to get you to care
The sun is but a coward, afraid of the dark
One day, it will shrink into a shadow of its former glory
As life goes on, the sun will age, but its ego will not until it is too late
But as time goes on, I'm willing to wait
Aware that there is no fate
As the moon, all I can do is stare at you,
with the world between us,
never reaching you.
