lies
I told you the truth
I swear,
but your greedy eyes wanted something more
something better
so I took my secret,
took my scars,
and hid them under my shirt,
near my chest,
where no one but me could see
and i presented you with something better,
something prettier,
something neater.
a rose without its thorns,
a bottle of poison without its label.
and I watched as you took every morsel,
I watched it slide down your throat.
You looked up at me,
satisfied with every word,
satisfied with every twist of truth.
satisfied with each and every one of my many lies.
so I put my guilt right next to the truth and then i
smiled
