Interview with a mirror

Q: What do you want?

A: Happiness, Love, anything but this

Q: Define happiness, Define love.

A: I don't think I can long for something I can't define

Q: Thought long enough?

A: Happiness is the feeling of being without worry, to not have dangerous thoughts buzz around your head when you lay down to sleep

Q: What are "Dangerous Thoughts"?

A: I don't want to talk about that

Q: You will, this is as inevitable as the thoughts themselves.

Q:Are you satisfied with your life?

A: that's vague

Q: You die tonight. Are you satisfied?

A: Maybe? i don't think i regret anything, there so much i want to experience

Q: You regret [REDACTED].

Q: Would you alter your past?

A: yeah, i would change how it ended with [REDACTED]

Q: That's a lie.

A: you're right, i wouldn't change anything, i'm not exactly "satisfied" with my life, but i don't wanna change anything

Q: Why do you keep looking away?

A: i can't handle eye contact very well

Q: How are you supposed to be happy and loved if you can't even look at me.

A: can we move on

Q: No we can't move on. You can't fill the void in your heart left by [REDACTED] if you can't even bear to look at yourself.

A: ...shut up. you aren't real.

Q: Self derogatory statements won't get you anywhere.

A:

Q: Why are we still pretending I'm the one asking the questions here.

The author's comments:

“Interview with a Mirror” is written like an interrogation. The Questioner’s voice is rigid and authoritative, while the Answerer is human, fragile, and vulnerable. I wanted to show what it’s like when your own mind assails you with questions you aren’t ready to answer. This poem is basically me arguing with a mirror, and losing the debate.
