Drowning

lingers like a goodbye kiss.

The water is your lover—

slowly fading in the distance.

It cradles you—

as tears flood your eyes

and the flood floods your tears—

and your arms are too weak—to protect you

from the storm.

As the pressure rises,

you hear—your ears pop,

you feel—Atlas’s burden drop

from your shoulders,

and the voices—in your head—stop.

You find light—in the darkness,

breath—in the suffocation,

and as eternity consumes you,

you smile—and greet your one desire,

letting yourself be—at peace—

at last—

But your lover—is tapping you on the shoulder,

and He—just watches

so you—just watch

as the piranhas come closer.

And as they mark you—

you wonder if they smelled—the fear on your skin.

Maybe—there’s magic in you yet—

as you transform the water—into wine—

But—you can’t even die in peace—

They won’t even give you that
