Incubator brightening

oval, glossy, white, pure egg

Sitting there, motionless

Impatiently watching for it to hatch

Light gleaming in my eyes

Beating down on the egg

An abrupt motion

Tiny crack

My eyes watching every second, every move

Suddenly, a crack

More and more cracks now

Beak bounding to emerge

The shell crumbles

A wet yellow head popped out

Left a little bird

Not knowing where to go

Without a place

The little chick

Panicking

Scared for this big world

Teriffed, lost, alone

Chirping

Calling of help

Wondering

Searching

For his mother

My hands reach out

Hoping to help

The poor chick

Reaching down

I wrap my hands around the chick

Providing a blanketing comfort

My fingers

Wet from the damp yellow feathers

Providing warmth for the helpless little bird

Creating a home

For the frightened bird

My hand wrapped around the chick

A feeling of happiness sending shivers up my spine

I found a friend

A friend that I will call Pollito
