July
Being born in July means
Having fire in your eyes
And an ocean in your heart.
It means balmy nights
And listless Sunday mornings.
Salty tears,
And flashlights against a starry night sky.
It means
Alway being stuck in the middle,
Never quite finding your footing,
Because you're not sure
If you’re any closer to June
Than you are to August.
July means
Ice clinking around in your brain
Just the same as the cubes in your sweet tea.
Sitting on the roof
And jumping off the dock.
Floating atop the glass sea,
And realizing your entire being
belongs to the water.
