Drifting Away
Do you know how it felt
When every inside joke went over my head
Did you see the hurt flash across my face
Or did you just see the laugh
The smile that didn't quite reach my eyes
I noticed
When I was no longer a priority
When what I cared about was an afterthought
Never brought up
Unless it was the source of a joke
I noticed
Every time the subject changed
As soon as I walked in the room
Every time a long-awaited response was
Sorry, I meant to text you back
That I wasn't good enough for you
I watched as you molded yourselves to fit in
Little changes eventually adding up
Other people taking the forefront of your mind
I felt the joy we once had
Turn into watching every word
Trying so hard to not make a mistake
Not to say something that could embarrass me
Or more importantly
Embarrass you
