Giants
Finish my thoughts
Finish my thoughts SO LOUDLY
So that I might finish them too
I never spoke to the man
Sitting behind his dusty shelves
Not once
Even as I bought the statue of liberty for just a dime
That man with his worn face
His eyes that spoke of so so much
I knew I let him down
I’m like a puppy surrounded my giants
I feel small and so excitable
Their tall faces look down on me
Full of sorrowful knowledge
I wish I wasn’t so quick to catch on
This cage built to look like a monument
These tall giants my wardens and inmates alike
Fear every day
For a gun
For a knife
Who knew such a small bottle could scare such big giants
I don’t want to be pessimistic but…
They all know what I mean
Even the puppy
I know too much
Im growing tall also
Just like these giants

I wrote this poem during my freshman year, after a violent occurrence at my school that sent us into a lockdown.
I want to hear what others think it means.
